The Cleveland Browns certainly aren’t making many friends with their most recent offseason acquisition.
On Friday, it was reported that the team was giving up five draft picks (including three first-rounders) for former Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson — he of the 22 pending sexual assault lawsuits. Not only did they give up so much to acquire the troubled quarterback, but they did so at the expense of Baker Mayfield, who gave his blood, sweat and tears to bring the Browns more success than they’ve had in decades.
Add it all up, and you can understand why some fans were pissed.
And when people start to find out about the sketchy terms surrounding Watson’s new contract with the Browns, you can bet even more people will be voicing their displeasure loud and clear.
According to reports, Cleveland has structured Watson’s new contract so that he is only making a base salary of $1-million in 2022. Why is that so significant? Because if Watson is suspended in 2022 as a result of the sexual assault claims (which he very likely could be), he’ll only lose $55,555 per game.

That’s a pretty slimy way of helping Watson escape the full extent of his possibly punishment. Congratulations, Browns. You’ve gone from lovable losers to pure scum.
