Deshaun Watson Eyeing Shorter Deal Than Patrick Mahomes

It appears Deshaun Watson wants nothing to do with a 10-year deal that Patrick Mahomes got this offseason.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Thursday that the Texans and QB Deshaun Watson are working hard on an extension that has a framework different than what the Chiefs gave QB Patrick Mahomes. Rapoport says the deal is closer to what has been signed in recent years by Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.

Pro Football Talk then added that Watson is eyeing a three-year extension to his current deal which has two years remaining.

Houston’s goal is to ink Watson to a deal before next Thursday’s season opener against the Chiefs.

In 2019, Watson appeared in 15 games for the Texans and completed 67.3 percent of his passes for 3,852 yards with 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 413 yards and seven touchdowns.
