There are thought to be growing concerns over the well-being of Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson amid his injury layoff.
Watson, who got to begin the season with the team in 2023 after starting the previous campaign on suspension, missed Cleveland’s last game with a shoulder injury. It was expected that he would be ready to play following their bye week, however, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the QB missed practice on Wednesday because of the same problem.
It would seem that Watson is still not ready to get back out on the field, which suggests that the injury might be worse than initially thought.
Should he be unable to play against the San Franciso 49ers in Week 6, the Browns are expected to start rookie Dorian Thompson Robinson, who played in Watson’s stead when they faced the Baltimore Ravens in their last game. The first-year signal-caller struggled in the 28-3 loss, throwing three interceptions.
Of course, the Browns would prefer not to start a rookie against the team considered to be the strongest in the NFL right now, so they will be hoping that Watson is okay to play on Sunday.
The game is a crucial one as all AFC North teams have already lost twice and the 2-2 Browns could possibly move into first place with a win.
