The Tennessee Titans are in a four-way tie for first in the AFC South, but if they ‘re out of the playoff race leading up to the trade deadline, it only makes sense to deal star running back Derrick Henry.
The two-time rushing champion turns 30 in January (a common age for running backs to decline noticeably) and is in the final year of his contract. So one shouldn’t be surprised if first-year GM Ran Carthon decides to shop Henry rather than risk losing him for nothing.
Most Super Bowl contenders seem to have a steady RB1 in place, but a team like the Los Angeles Rams could use a power runner like the 2021 Offensive Player of the Year.
LA has exceeded expectations early with a 2-2 record, despite not having Cooper Kupp for the first four games of the year. Kupp’s return will greatly help the passing game, but the rushing offense could certainly use a boost following Cam Akers’ trade to Minnesota.
The Titans can’t expect a king’s ransom for an ageing RB in his contract year. But the Rams should offer young wideout Van Jefferson and a 2024 fourth-round pick that becomes a third if Henry leads his new team to the postseason.

Kyren Williams is off to a strong start with the Rams, but adding Henry in the backfield would give LA’s prolific offense a dynamic 1-2 punch as they try to keep up with the other top clubs in the NFC.
A mid-round pick would be a nice return for Tennessee, given their past success in finding gems with day two and three picks. And it’s worth taking a flier on Jefferson, who needs a fresh start after failing to build off his career 2021 campaign that saw him post 802 receiving yards.
