An interesting trade proposal has a surprise AFC team landing Tennessee Titans star and two-time rushing champion Derrick Henry.
The soon-to-be 30-year-old Henry is entering the final season of his contract with the Titans. Tennessee enters Week 8 with a 2-4 record, and a home loss to the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday would essentially end any remaining playoff hopes for Mike Vrabel and company.
Titans GM Ran Carthon has already made one big pre-deadline move, sending star safety Kevin Byard to the Philadelphia Eagles. Henry, quarterback Ryan Tannehill and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins are among the other household names on Tennessee who could be traded before Tuesday’s deadline.
Conor Orr of SI.com recently proposed blockbuster trade ideas. Among them? Henry going to the Cleveland Browns for 2024 third and 2025 fifth-round draft choices:
“The Browns’ time to win is now. Whether Deshaun Watson wants to come for that ride is up to him. Cleveland doesn’t have a first-round pick in this upcoming draft, and, while the focus should be on fortifying the running game beyond the Nick Chubb years, Henry would be a quick solution to a pressing need.
Cleveland cannot win games without completely overstressing its opponents at the line of scrimmage. Depending on what Watson does, the need for ancillary pieces who can diversify their game plan are pressing. Actually, that’s true whether or not Watson is playing and healthy.”
The Browns lost superstar RB Nick Chubb for the season with a knee injury back in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Backup Jerome Ford did fine in Chubb’s place with 344 rushing yards and two scores in six games, but he may miss 1-2 weeks with an ankle injury he suffered on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Cleveland is 4-2 entering Sunday’s Week 8 road game against the Seattle Seahawks. A win in the Pacific Northwest should only motivate GM Andrew Berry to be a busy trade deadline buyer.
Would that include making a move for Henry? It makes plenty of sense, but we’ll have to wait and see how things play out between now and Tuesday’s deadline.
