Los Angeles Rams’ second-year cornerback Derion Kendrick was arrested early Monday morning on a weapons charge, hours after the club’s Week 6 home win against the Arizona Cardinals at SoFi Stadium.
TMZ Sports was told by law enforcement sources that Kendrick was arrested early on Monday after police pulled him over for a traffic infraction. Officers found marijuana and a firearm in his car, and he was booked at 2:14 a.m. local time:
“Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Sports … the 23-year-old was pulled over early in the morning for a traffic violation — and we’re told during the stop, police found a gun and marijuana in his car.
Jail records show Kendrick was then booked at 2:14 AM PT on a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon … and as of 2:30 PM PT on Monday, he remained in custody.”
TMZ Sports did not immediately receive a comment from the Rams on the matter. Per NFL.com, Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay briefly commented on Kendrick’s arrest, stating the team was receiving “more information” on the matter.
“We’re continuing to gather more information on that,” McVay said. “Until then, I’m gonna just kind of leave it at that until I have all the appropriate information. I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to speak on things that I don’t have the totality of it, other than knowing that he was arrested early this morning, and that’s kind of where we’re kind of at at that.”
The 23-year-old Kendrick played college football at Clemson from 2018 to 2020 before transferring to Georgia for his final NCAA season. He was part of the Tigers’ and Bulldogs’ national championship winning teams in 2018 and 2021 ,respectively.
