Former NFL defensive end Derek Wolfe made an interesting admission during a recent appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience.” This just a few months after killing a mountain lion with a bow and arrow.
Wolfe played eight seasons with the Denver Broncos (2012 to 2019) and two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens (2020 to 2021), before announcing his retirement in July of last year. With his career over, Wolfe won’t have to worry about any repercussions from the NFL following his admission to Rogan.
On Rogan’s show (h/t Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot), Wolfe revealed that he experimented with mushrooms before NFL games.
“Before games, I was taking microdoses. So I’m microdosed…I’m (expletive) taking mushrooms and (expletive) Adderall. Before I play…The (expletive) focus is out of control. Before games, I would get myself pissed off…And it would (expletive) get me in this rage mode. It was this crazy controlled rage.”
In 2015, the NFL suspended Wolfe four games for violating the NFL’s PEDs policy. In a statement, Wolfe stated that he used a medication that he didn’t know was barred by the league. Wolfe added that the medication was not a PEDs substance.
Wolfe was a key member on the Broncos’ defense during the Peyton Manning era (2012 to 2015). Wolfe, Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware formed a dynamic pass rushing trio in Mile High City, powering the Broncos to four straight AFC West division titles over that four-year span.

Wolfe had four seasons of at least 5.5 sacks during his eight years with the Broncos, including a career-high seven in the 2016 season. In the Broncos’ run to Super Bowl 50, Wolfe had 2.5 sacks in three playoff games — helping the Broncos to their third title in franchise history.
In 122 career regular season games, the 33-year-old Wolfe finished with 34 sacks, 17 pass defenses, one interception and three fumble recoveries.
