It felt like every offseason there would be talk of Josh McDaniels being head coach of a team, but he would always stay put in New England.
After the fiasco with the Colts a few years ago, he finally packed his things and signe don to be the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
It’s been over a week since that hiring, and the starting QB Derek Carr has yet to say anything publicly about it. McDaniels has said that he’s spoken to Carr and his comments have indicated that he’s a fan of the quarterback.
David Carr, the quarterback’s brother, has since given how his youngest brother feels about the head coaching situation.
“He loves it,” Carr said when asked how his brother feels about the McDaniels hire. “He loves Josh’s system, he’s been a big fan of what Josh McDaniels has done for a long time and the Patriot way.”
At the end of the Raiders season, Carr was calling for interim head coach Rich Bisaccia to get the permanent job. Many thought he would be upset with McDaniels getting the gig over him.

“I think it’s great for everybody involved because if you think about it, schematically, it makes sense,” David Carr said. “Josh is going to ask his quarterback to be able to get to every play possible in the entire world, and Derek’s capable of doing that. In fact, he’s run a system like that with Jon Gruden.”
“I think that with Josh, when he looked at this setup here that they have in Las Vegas, a team that’s already a playoff team, he says, ‘This is ready-made. I just got to come in here, tighten the screws a little bit, maybe add a couple pieces.’ I like this a lot because this also, for me, this means that Mark Davis is serious.” David Carr continued.
During the 2021 season, Carr set a new career-high for passing yards with 4,804 while he also completed 68 percent or better of his passes for the third time in the last four seasons.
Carr showed his leadership by not only leading the team to the postseason, but did so as the team dealt with the fallout of former head coach Jon Gruden stepping down and former teammate Henry Ruggs being released after he caused the death of a woman and her dog in a druken crash.
