Free agent quarterback Derek Carr has lined up a visit with another club, this time with an AFC team.
The four-time Pro Bowler has already visited with the New Orleans Saints. On Friday, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Carr is now set to visit with another quarterback-needy team in the New York Jets.
Carr was released from his contract by the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this week, less than a year after he signed a three-year extension worth $121.5 million. The soon-to-be 32-year-old is now a free agent and can sign with a new team right away.
The Jets are expected to find a new starting quarterback following a tremendously disappointing season from Zach Wilson, the No. 2 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. Wilson and backups Joe Flacco and Mike White struggled throughout 2022, and the problems in the passing game prevented the Jets from ending a 12-year playoff drought.
In 15 games for the Raiders last season, Carr threw for 3,522 yards and 24 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. Prior to 2022, Carr had thrown for over 4,000 passing yards in four consecutive seasons.
There is no shortage of QB-needy teams across the NFL. Now we wait and see who Carr will choose to begin his next chapter with.
