After seemingly non-stop years of controversy, the Washington Redskins are now at a crossroads where they have no choice but to change their nickname or face serious repercussions.
It started with FedEx, the company that sponsors the Redskins’ stadium, asked the team to change the name. Nike was next up when they pulled all of their team apparel from their website and don’t plan to put it back until the name changes.
A few comical suggestions have come to light when it comes to picking a new name for the franchise, but Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr had one of the best replies for a future name for the franchise.
Carr’s idea for the Sentinels comes from the 2000 film “The Replacements,” which stars Keanu Reeves. The team in the movie also plays in Washington so there is at least a connection there.
It remains to be seen where the franchise will go in regards to changing its name and uniforms.
