Derek Carr is free from the Las Vegas Raiders and wants to get paid handsomely by his new team.
During a live appearance on ESPN’s Friday morning shows, NFL insider Dianna Russini relayed that Carr is seeking a contract averaging $35 million or more per year in free agent visits with the Saints and New York Jets.
“He doesn’t need to be the first quarterback to sign (in free agency),” Russini added.
The $35 million, should he get it, would tie Kirk Cousins to rank ninth in per-year salary among quarterbacks. Carr may have a hard time finding the $40 million per year that Dak Prescott and Matt Stafford are each getting.
If a team is looking for a veteran QB, then somebody will certainly pay him, especially if they think Carr might be able to play well enough to get their team into the playoffs and possibly further.

Where Carr’s price point ends up could foreshadow how the rest of the quarterback market shakes out. David Carr indicated his younger brother won’t rush into a decision.
“It’s gonna be a long process,” David said Monday on NFL Total Access. “He wants to do his due diligence and see as many places as he can to get a feel for what the best place for him will be.”
Carr passed for 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions with the Raiders last season. The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback led the Raiders to two playoff appearances in eight seasons.
