During the late stages of the 2022 NFL season, the Las Vegas Raiders made it clear they were ready to move on from Derek Carr by benching him for the final few games.
Back in February, the Raiders officially released their veteran quarterback making him a free agent to sign with any new team.
Back in March, Derek Carr was officially introduced as the New Orleans Saints’ new quarterback after formerly signing his new four-year $150 million contract at the teams’ headquarters. To make the transition easy for him, the Saints got the help of Jon Gruden to help bring Carr along. Gruden attended several practices and visited with the Saints’ offensive coaches and quarterbacks as they went through their first full week of offseason practices.
Carr spent nine years as the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders but didn’t have much playoff success.
Now, one of his current teammates wants to send him back to Vegas, but not in a malicious way. Saints star pass rusher Cameron Jordan would like to send his new teammate to his old stadium for the Super Bowl.
“I expect the Super Bowl,” Jordan said on June 19 during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I expect to take Derek Carr, DC4, back to Vegas where he just left and have a return run at the Super Bowl.”

It doesn’t take a long-time football fan to realize the Saints were a team without an identity for much of last season. The team cycled through veterans Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton.
Last year, the Saints could only manage a 7-10 record and would miss the playoffs as Andy Dalton started 14 games for them. He had a passer rating of 95.2 last season, which was better than Carr’s 86.3.
2022 was the second season in a row the Saints have missed the playoffs.
Cameron clearly has hopes that Carr can not only lead them back to the playoffs, but all the way to the Super Bowl.
