Derek Carr’s career with the Raiders ended badly as he was benched for the final few weeks and then he left the team to not serve as a distraction for the remainder of the year. He would then be released and then sign with the New Orleans Saints in free agency.
Saints quarterback Derek Carr is now speaking about his time with the Raiders, more specifically last season, and apologizing for failing to give the Las Vegas Raiders the best version of himself last season and is focused on not letting that happen again.
“They just didn’t get my best and that drove me crazy at the end of the year because I felt so spread out in so many different ways,” Carr said, (first transcribed by ProFootballTalk). “I just didn’t feel like myself and I feel bad for the coaches and players.”
The Raiders had a disappointing 6-11 finish with many games where they should’ve won, but the team simply fell apart when it mattered.
Carr threw for 3,522 yards and 24 touchdowns with 14 interceptions in 15 games for the Raiders this past season. He threw for a career-high 4,804 yards in 2021 while leading the Raiders to a 10-7 finish, which is just one of three winning records he had during his time with the franchise.
At 31, Carr still has several good years of football left. The veteran could be an easy fix for a struggling offense like the Saints.
