The New York Jets opened training camp a week early because of their Hard Knocks obligations, and the atmosphere should be great given the involvement of Aaron Rodgers.
But one player will not be around long enough to enjoy the enthusiasm as he’s set to be released if a trade cannot be fashioned.
Denzel Mims, a second-round draft pick in 2020, has been informed that he will be waived if he isn’t traded, according to ESPN.
The wide receiver requested a trade a year ago and has been excused from training camp this year. His spell with the Jets has been largely disappointing as he’s only managed 42 catches for 676 yards and zero touchdowns in three seasons.
The Jets have been pretty stringent with the wideout position, having traded Elijah Moore to the Cleveland Browns while also opting not to re-sign Braxton Berrios, who is now with the Miami Dolphins.
Corey Davis could also find himself on the fringes as his role is uncertain while he throws $11 million against the cap.

Of course, the team has brought in upgrades in the forms of Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, who both played with Rodgers in Green Bay, as well as Mecole Hardman.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys are reported to have shown interest in trading for Mims, with the Jets understood to be keen on a conditional seventh-round pick.
