The Denver Broncos appear ready to host a massive fire sale ahead of next Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.
Despite a roster loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, Denver sits at 2-5 heading into their Week 8 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs. As a result, they’re widely expected to be a hot seller in the coming days.
In his latest mailbag, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer stated that he believes the Broncos should “cut bait” with quarterback Russell Wilson in 2024. Breer added that the Broncos are listening to offers on six of their top starters, including All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II and star wideouts Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton:
“After that’s done, I do think Denver will undergo a more thorough retooling, with Payton captaining all of it. Which is why the Broncos are going to listen to trade inquiries on Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Garett Bolles, Josey Jewell, Justin Simmons and even Patrick Surtain II over the next six days. The Broncos aren’t close, they need picks and it makes sense exploring getting more.”
These six players obviously aren’t at fault for the Broncos’ ongoing struggles. But it’s very clear that even with the likes of Jeudy, Sutton, Surtain II and Justin Simmons, the Broncos don’t have enough depth nor young pieces in place to compete in the AFC.
So it makes perfect sense for GM George Paton to deal several of his top players in return for valuable draft assets, considering how much he gave up in the ill-fated move for Wilson 19 months ago.

Since winning Super Bowl 50 eight seasons ago, the once-proud Broncos franchise has endured one winning season (in 2016) and zero playoff berths. At this rate, it only makes sense for Denver to punt on the season and rebuild for 2024.
