Demarcus Lawrence made it very clear that he wanted to get paid for being one of the top defensive players on the Dallas Cowboys. In January, the defensive end took to social media and called out the franchise for taking its time getting him a new deal.
“Franchised —-> Pro Bowl——-> Your move,” he wrote.
After playing on a 1-year, $17M deal, the Cowboys had one of three choices to make in regards to Lawrence. Sign him to a long-term deal; apply the franchise tag again that would give him $20.56M; or let Lawrence his the open market.
They chose to tag him.
That decision is already being met with heavy consequences as signs are showing that Lawrence will likely holdout to get a better deal, according to Cowboys writer Clarence Hill Jr.

Lawrence racked up 10.5 sacks in 2018 and was selected to another Pro Bowl. That was after leading the team in sacks in 2017 and being selected to his first Pro Bowl.
