Last month, Shaquille O’Neal made his case for who he thinks should become the next Cowboys coach, and he went into the college ranks to find that person.
“I’m putting this out right now,” the basketball legend said on The Big Podcast With Shaq. “Deion Sanders is the next head coach for the Cowboys. Jerry Jones, this message is from Shaquille O’Neal Incorporated, Deion Sanders for the next coach of Cowboys.” He continued, saying, “You want to get Dallas back rocking? Bring Deion to the fold. Deion will hold those players accountable. Deion Sanders for the next Cowboys coach. Put it out. Tweet it, dammit. TikTok it. Instagram it. OnlyFans it. Put it out.”
Unfortunately for Shaq, the man himself does not feel that way.
The Jackson State coach told CowboysSI.com he has no “desire or ambition to coach in the NFL.” Sanders believes he’s too old school to coach NFL players.
“I don’t have any desire or ambition to coach in the NFL,” Sanders told Bri Amaranthus in an exclusive visit with CowboysSI.com. “I have a problem with men getting their checks and not doing their jobs. I would be too tough as a coach in the NFL because I still have those old-school attributes.”
Sanders believes he would be “too tough” on NFL players.
Sanders echoed these same sentiments before when he told Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports he did not “aspire to coach in the NFL any time soon.”

Sanders led Jackson State to an 11-win season his first year on the job. He was rewarded with the FCS Coach of the Year honor.
Sanders only has two seasons under his belt at Jackson State, but he has already made waves by on the field with his coaching and off the field by snagging No. 1 recruit Travis Hunter from Florida State.
If Sanders keeps it up at Jackson State, calls from NFL teams will come more frequently.
