While former NFL and MLB player Deion Sanders may have gone by his nickname, “Prime Time,” during his playing days, these days he’d rather be called coach.
Sanders corrected a reporter who referred to him by his first name during a media event on Tuesday ahead of the new season.
“You don’t call [Alabama’s] Nick Saban, ‘Nick.’ Don’t call me Deion,” Sanders, 53, told the reporter from the Clarion-Ledger.
“If you call Nick [Saban], Nick, you’ll get cussed out on the spot,” he continued, “so don’t do that to me. Treat me like Nick.”
Not only did Deion Sanders walk out because a reporter called him by his first name, Jackson State blocked a reporter from covering the team on Tuesday. Rashad Milligan of the Clarion Ledger was blocked by two Jackson State officials from covering the program.
This incident was because Milligan reported that four-star wide receiver Quaydarius Davis was expected to plead guilty on a misdemeanor charge from an incident in March. Sanders reportedly didn’t want Milligan to interview any players or coaches on Jackson State’s football team.

Milligan hasn’t been banned from covering future events for Jackson State.
“Two Clarion Ledger reporters were credentialed for SWAC Media Days, those credentials were not taken away and the SWAC also said they were not taken away,” a school spokesperson said. “I am not privy to any reporter being barred or banned. Rashad Milligan has not been barred from covering Jackson State.”
