Deion Sanders is now being tipped to land an NFL job in the wake of his early success with Colorado.
The idea of Coach Prime standing on an NFL sideline isn’t one many would have entertained earlier in the summer. But people are really warming up to it after his start to life in the Pac-12 and a recent column from The Athletic’s Mike Sando suggests the former cornerback could bring his swag back to the league at some point.
“Deion Sanders has more to prove after only two games at Colorado, but early indications point to intriguing possibilities on an NFL sideline,” Sando writes. “If a head coach is authentic, emotionally intelligent, smart, organized and knows the game, succeeding at the highest level becomes possible, whether or not the delivery is conventional.”
Sanders has been lauded for his authenticity during interviews as he constantly delivers impressive takes on multiple topics, with football and mentorship at the forefront. His use of the transfer portal, recruiting pull, and the fact that he’s put such a formidable coaching staff together have also earned him praise,
“You have to be authentic or you can’t be successful,” an NFL executive said. “Deion is a unique individual who was playing two sports, who was dominant. He obviously knows ball, and the difference is, while it is usually hard for great players to teach people to be great, Deion is getting these guys to play at a level above where they are at. That is what is so unique about him.”
Of course, it’s still early days and there’s a lot more football to play. But given the remarkable start, it’s getting harder to imagine Deion’s first season in charge of the Buffs turning out to be anything short of a great story.
