San Francisco 49ers fans can take a breather regarding the status of star wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
Per Clayton Holloway of NFL Network, 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan stated that Samuel is day-to-day with the shoulder injury he suffered in Sunday’s Week 6 road loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Fellow star and running back Christian McCaffrey is undergoing an MRI with oblique/rib injuries. Pro Bowl offensive lineman Trent Williams also avoided a serious ankle injury and is listed as day-to-day.
Samuel had two rushes for 11 yards and one target in the passing game before leaving with the shoulder injury. Williams suffered his ankle injury in Sunday’s game as well but decided to play through it.
McCaffrey had 11 rushes for 43 yards and three receptions for nine yards and a touchdown. The 49ers’ high-powered offense clearly wasn’t the same without the do-it-all running back, who has 730 yards of offense and nine touchdowns this season.
The 49ers dropped a defensive slugfest 19-17 to a Browns team that started third-string quarterback P.J. Walker in place of an injured Deshaun Watson. Rookie kicker Jake Moody missed a game-winning 41-yard attempt in the waning seconds, as Cleveland escaped with one of the biggest upset wins of the young season.

Sunday’s loss also marked the first regular season defeat of Brock Purdy’s career. The second-year QB entered Week 6 with a perfect 10-0 regular season record.
