DeAndre Hopkins is looking for three specific things from his next NFL team.
The Arizona Cardinals announced having released the wide receiver this Friday, leaving him free to negotiate his way to a contending team. The Cards were unable to find a trade partner for Hopkins given the $19.45 million he’s due in 2023, but interested teams could now negotiate a cut-price deal now that the player is a free agent.
Hopkins was not around when the Cardinals began their OTA’s on Monday. He has since appeared on the I AM ATHLETE podcast to reveal he’s been in Toronto working out and getting his body examined. He also explained that he was not referring to the Cardinals when he posted that selfie video claiming he never said he wanted to leave. The WR insisted he was referring to the city of Phoenix.
“Phoenix is home,” he noted. “It’s where I have been the last three years. … Working out there, there’s no emphasis other than that’s where I live. It’s not me going on a campaign. It’s just me working out.”
What DeAndre Hopkins Wants From His Next NFL Team
Hopkins would also reveal the three things he’s looking to get from his next team: stable management, a personable quarterback who loves football, and a great defense.

“What I want is stable management upstairs, that’s something I haven’t really had the past couple years of my career coming from Houston and then to Arizona,” he said. “A QB who loves the game, a QB who brings everybody on board with him, not just himself but everybody around him … and a great defense. A great defense wins championships.”
The 30-year-old will have an opportunity to join a franchise he believes can provide him with all of the above following his release from the Cardinals.
