Deandre Baker is facing multiple charges after he was accused of robbing several people at a party last week that also got Quinton Dunbar charged and arrested as well.
The New York Giants cornerback was also accused of being the ring leader and directing Dunbar to rob people while telling a third man to shoot someone who had just walked into the party.
Patrick G. Patel, one of Baker’s attorneys, told SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano over the weekend that Baker is the victim of a “shakedown.” He added the arrest has rattled Baker and is confident the 22-year-old can make the most of a bad situation.
“He’s got an opportunity to become the next Ray Lewis and not the next Ray Rice,” Patel said. “There’s two guys who went in two different directions. I told DeAndre that. And he seems very focused. He’s scared straight. I can say that.”
Ray Lewis was part of a double murder investigation early in his career, but rebounded to carve out a hall of fame career. Ray Rice never played another down in the league after video surfaced of him striking his then-fiance in an elevator.
“There was no robbery,” Patel said. “Nothing at all. He’s absolutely taking that position. And I’m confident the state is going to look at all the facts and realize it’s absurd that a kid making $2 million a year is going to steal a fake watch.”
Witnesses who originally cooperated with investigators have also reportedly recanted and are now saying something completely different.
