Davante Adams shocked the world by choosing the Raiders over the Packers, but it did not shock one person who was close to the situation.
Adams and the Packers were far apart in negotiations on a new contract, but it appears that Adams wanted out no matter what.
NFL Network’s David Carr and brother to Derek Carr revealed this week that Adams tried to get himself traded to the Raiders for several years. He also added that Adams’ relationship with Rodgers is professional but “not much more than that”.
“It’s something they’ve tried to make happen for five years now, since Davante signed his contract extension several years ago with the Packers,” Carr told Eisen. “Derek was pushing to get him there. . . . A couple years ago they were really close to making that happen.”

The Packers were willing to pay Davante Adams as much or more than the Raiders are. It came down to him wanting out and to play with Derek Carr, his college QB.
The Bulldogs were indeed a formidable force with Carr and Adams in 2012 and 2013 — Carr threw 87 touchdown passes to 15 interceptions in that time, and Adams caught 233 of Carr’s passes for 3,031 yards and 38 touchdowns.
In his final season with the Packers, Adams had 123 catches for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Last year, Carr completed 428 passes for 4,804 yards, both career highs, and threw for 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
