New York Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers sent a subtle message to his former left tackle David Bakhtiari earlier this week that caused a ton of reaction online that had many thinking a trade was in the works.
Rodgers tagged Bakhtiari in a picture of him and Jets wideout Garrett Wilson on his Instagram story. However, despite all of the smoke, there is no fire.
Packers general manager Brian Gutenkunst acknowledged that he has heard the chatter but has zero plans of moving on from the three-time Pro Bowl selection.
“First off all, we’re not going to trade David,” Gutenkunst said Friday. “So let’s just get that out of the way because I know there’s been a little bit of chatter about that, and it’s not going to happen.”
Apart from being one of Rodgers’ best friends, Bakhtiari is a five-time All-Pro left tackle. The Jets would love him in that position as veteran Duane Brown is currently on the PUP list and Mekhi Becton has played just 15 games in three NFL seasons.
Bakhtiari has played in just 12 games since tearing his ACL on New Year’s Eve 2020, but Gutekunst said he’s in “a good place” with the knee. He will now be tasked to protect Jordan Love going forward.
The New York Jets are attempting to build somewhat of a dream team. After landing former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers via trade, the Jets grabbed Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, and Mecole Hardman to bolster the wide receiving corps.
