The Green Bay Packers’ road to a postseason return just got significantly more difficult.
Per Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Packers have placed All-Pro offensive tackle David Bakhtiari on the injured reserve as he continues to deal with a knee injury. This means he has to miss a minimum of four games, and Rapoport noted that “it’s unclear “if he’ll return this season.
It’s another unfortunate break for Bakhtiari, who turns 32 years of age on Saturday. He suffered a season-ending ACL tear late in the 2020 campaign and had to miss Green Bay’s run to the NFC Championship Game.
Bakthiari missed all but one game in 2021 and was limited to 11 games last year. He appeared in the Packers’ Week 1 opener against the Chicago Bears but missed their subsequent contests against Atlanta and New Orleans.
When healthy, the former Colorado standout has been one of football’s premier offensive tackles. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler with two First-team All-Pro and a trio of Second-team All-Pro selections.
With Bakhtiari out, the Packers will need more from second-year tackles Rasheed Walker and Zach Tom. Green Bay’s interior o-line is at least in good hands, though. Josh Myers is one of the game’s best centers, and Elgton Jenkins has developed into one of football’s top guards.
