If Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams got his wish, the team would have secured its new franchise superstar quarterback at last year’s draft.
There have been rumors floating around suggesting that the Raiders wanted to trade up and take Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud in last year’s NFL Draft. Stroud, of course, went second overall to the Houston Texans after the Carolina Panthers used the top pick on Bryce Young.
During his appearance on Two G’s in a Pod” (h/t Austin Boyd of Heavy.com), the future Hall of Fame wideout revealed that he wanted the Raiders to make the move for Stroud last year:
“He (Stroud) may be No. 1, I don’t know. That was somebody I was campaigning for coming out…I was not pro-rookie across the board…that was the guy I felt strongly about and he felt the same way.”
Landing Stroud could have been quite the franchise-changer for the Raiders. The ex-Buckeye led the Texans to an AFC South division title after a phenomenal rookie year that saw him through for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns against only five interceptions.
Raiders quarterbacks (Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O’Connell and Brian Hoyer), meanwhile, combined for just 19 touchdown passes against 18 interceptions. So yeah, they could have definitely used a quarterback like Stroud.
