The New York Jets weren’t resting on their laurels before Tuesday’s trade deadline as the New York Post’s Brian Costello has reported that general manager Joe Douglas made attempts to bring in a wide receiver.
According to Costello, the Jets made inquiries into Las Vegas Raiders star Davante Adams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans but had their advances rebuffed in both instances.
It’s also been reported that the team considered a move for an offensive lineman but ultimately decided against it.
Both of the aforementioned wideouts play for teams that are unlikely to make the playoffs.
The Raiders have lost their last two games and are 3-5 after losing to the Detroit Lions on Monday in a game that saw Adams make a single reception for 11 yards in unbelievable usage. Head coach Josh McDaniels has since been fired.
Evans’ situation is a bit different as he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season while the Bucs are 3-4 and could lose him for nothing at the end of the season.

The Jets lost Aaron Rodgers in their season opener, yet they’ve managed to score some big wins since then and retain playoff hopes at 4-3 while sitting third in the AFC East. Acquiring either Adams or Evans would have certainly increased their chances.
