Darren Waller, one of the NFL’s top tight ends, is coming to the Giants from the Raiders in exchange for the third-round pick.
For a player who was a Pro Bowler in 2020, it seems like a very low return, but there may be a reason why the raiders let him go for cheap.
According to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur, Waller had gotten upset with Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels for accidentally telling the media that he was getting married.
“Waller was upset with McDaniels when the Las Vegas Review-Journal posted a story announcing the wedding was scheduled later in the week,” Tafur tweeted, regarding McDaniels’ comments at the Scouting Combine. “The couple had not publicly announced their plans to get married.”
Waller married WNBA star Kelsey Plum, who plays for the Las Vegas Aces.
They could’ve been newlyweds in Las Vegas, but now Josh Mcdaniels has them separated by about 2,500 miles after Waller was traded away.

Waller had back-to-back 1,100-yard receiving seasons in 2019 and 2020 but has been plagued by injuries over the last two seasons, totaling just 17 games.
Waller is signed for the next four seasons and is owed more than $46 million, but he has no guaranteed money on the contract after 2023.
