Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum, the wife of New York Giants tight end Darren Waller, shared an interesting possible explanation as to why her husband was traded on Tuesday.
In a surprise move, the Las Vegas Raiders traded their Pro Bowl tight end to the Giants in exchange for a 2023 third-round draft choice (100th overall). New York previously received this pick from the Kansas City Chiefs in the Kadarius Toney trade.

In September, Waller agreed to a lucrative three-year contract extension worth $51 million. But the one-time Pro Bowler was marred by injuries and appeared in just nine games, recording 28 receptions for 388 yards and three touchdowns.
Waller missed six games in the 2021 season, recording 55 receptions for 665 yards and two touchdowns. But in each of his last two healthy seasons (2019 and 2020), Waller hit the 90-catch and 1,000-receiving yard marks.
News of the Waller trade came on the same day where the Raiders signed ex-New England Patriots standout receiver Jakobi Meyers to a three-year contract worth $33 million. One day earlier, the Raiders agreed to a three-year contract with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo worth $72.75 million.
Losing Waller will hurt for Raiders nation, but the arrivals of Garoppolo, Meyers and the retaining of star running back Josh Jacobs (assigned the franchise tag) certainly gives the fans reason for optimism.
