There’s a concerning injury update to follow regarding New York Giants’ star tight end Darren Waller.
According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, Waller is still dealing with a right hamstring injury that affected him while he was with the Las Vegas Raiders last year. Leonard noted that it’s “a lingering issue” for the 31-year-old.
Though hamstring injuries may not seem severe on paper, they are problematic largely because it’s common for athletes to re-aggravate them. For example, Los Angeles Rams’ star wideout Cooper Kupp suffered a setback to his hamstring injury two weeks ago and is out until at least Week 5, having been placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
Also, Seattle Seahawks’ rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba missed all but three games in his final year at Ohio State last season because of a hamstring injury.
He struggled to get open in the Giants’ season opening 40-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, with cornerback Stephon Gilmore doing a stellar job in shutting him down. Waller finished the night with three catches for 36 yards.

Waller and the Giants will try to get back in the win column when they visit the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday. After that, they’ll travel to the west coast for a Thursday night showdown with the San Francisco 49ers.
