Darren Waller did not see this coming.
Kelsey Plum and Darren Waller barely enjoyed a week as newlyweds before the NFL star was traded to the New York Giants. The 30-year-old was acquired by the New York team after spending five seasons with the Raiders in Las Vegas, where his wife plays basketball with the Aces.
After the news of the trade broke, former NFL star Robert Griffin III tweeted, “Darren Waller JUST GOT MARRIED to Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces and Josh McDaniels’ wedding present was to trade him to the New York Giants. McDaniels is NOT a romantic.”
He wasn’t the only one shocked by the trade.
According to Kevin Patra, the star tight end claims, “I did not see this coming. I was getting ready to just do everything I could to make myself available for the Raiders and get ready for everything that was going to start in mid-April.”
“It caught me off guard, but it’s the nature of the business.”
Soon after the deal was announced, it was reported how upset he was with head coach Josh McDaniels after he leaked news about their wedding before they were able to.

What’s done is done and now Waller is getting set for his first year with the Giants.
“They can have questions at this moment about my health. Those are legitimate concerns, but I’m somebody that I believe I’ve addressed those issues. I’m willing to come out here and to be the best I can be to be a weapon for this team, a tool that this team can use to get to that next level that they want to go to. That’s exactly what I’m going to do.”
Waller and Plum tied the knot on March 4 in an intimate ceremony. Plum and Waller applied for a marriage license on Jan. 22 for their March 4 wedding. They have reportedly been dating since last year.
2022 was a big year for Plum, as she secured the WNBA title with the Aces, was named the MVP of the All-Star Game, and received a gold medal with the US team in the FIFA Basketball World Cup.
Despite only playing in nine games for the Raiders, Waller tallied 388 yards and three touchdowns in the 2022 season.
They may not be in the same city anymore, but the love will only grow stronger.
