A former Denver Broncos defensive end and WWE wrestler has passed away at the age of 54.
Darren Drozdov, who played in the NFL from 1993-1995, is reported to have died from natural causes this Friday morning, with his family confirming the news of his passing.
The former DE signed with WWE, then WWF, in the late 90s, having previously wrestled on the independent scene, and went by the name “Droz.”
His career was cut short in 1999 when he fractured two neck vertebrae after slipping during a match against D’Lo Brown. The incident left him paralyzed for the remainder of his life.
Despite the accident, Drozdov remained with the wrestling promotion as a writer and columnist, also making appearances in documentaries, as well as the controversial Dark Side of the Ring.
WWE ran a graphic commemorating the former star on this week’s episode of SmackDown.
