There is speculation that the Dallas Cowboys could cut one of their sack leaders from 2022 during training camp.
YardBarker’s Seth Trachtman looked at several big-named players who could be cut following NFL training camp. The last week of preseason wraps up Sunday, and then teams will have until 4:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday to finalize their 53-man rosters.
One of the names on Trachtman’s list? 2015 third overall pick and veteran edge rusher Dante Fowler Jr., who was brought back on a one-year deal earlier this offseason. Trachtman wrote that Fowler, “will need to continue producing to keep his roster spot.”
Though Fowler hasn’t lived up to the high expectations that surrounded him earlier in his career, he has put together a couple of noteworthy seasons. In 2017, he recorded eight sacks and two forced fumbles on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ “Sacksonville” defense that led the club to an AFC title game appearance.
Playing alongside Aaron Donald, Fowler Jr. had a career year with the Los Angeles Rams in 2019 by racking up 11.5 sacks, six pass defenses and two forced fumbles. He went on to sign a three-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons in 2020 free agency, but Fowler was let go after two frustrating seasons there.

Dallas brought in Fowler last year, and he produced well with six sacks and two forced fumbles as a rotational player in Dan Quinn’s defense.
The Cowboys, coming off consecutive 12-win campaigns, will open their 2023 season with a road contest against the New York Giants on Sept. 10.
