The Giants’ offseason will be defined by the decisions they make with QB Daniel Jones and RB Saquon Barkley. Like every team in the league, everything starts and ends with the quarterback position. If that player is not good, the rest of the team will not be able to continue any type of winning culture if the defense finds itself on the field for long periods of time because of a bad offense.
Daniel Jones showed what he could do last season and the team would love to have him back. There’s an interesting game of poker coming up with just one franchise tag for the Giants to use to ensure one doesn’t hit free agency, assuming no long-term deal can be reached.
Jones is set to be a free agent next month after the Giants declined his fifth-year option heading into this season. Had they picked it up, he would’ve made a little over $22 million.
The front office betting on him was lost as he delivered the best season of his career in 2022. He finished with 3,205 yards passing, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
Now there are rumors that he is demanding a contract between $35 and $37 million a season, according to SNY’s Connor Hughes.
If Jones and his camp are seeking $40 million a year, Hughes thinks Giants GM Joe Schoen will roll with the franchise tag, which would be a little over $32 million guaranteed for the 2023 season.

The only other QB on the roster besides Jones is Tyrod Taylor and he is certainly not the answer going forward.
