Daniel Jones is going to get paid a lot of money, but before that happens, he had to make an important change.
The New York Giants quarterback is in the process of changing agents before he hits the open market, sources told Jordan Raanan of ESPN.
“Giants QB Daniel Jones is in the process of making an agent change with new contract + free agency on the horizon, per sources. He was being represented by CAA. Expectation is he’ll be joining Athletes First. Not sure how much impact it will have, but it’s at least interesting,” Jordan Raanan reported.
Jones is expected to be represented by Athletes First, who negotiated contracts for quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott, reports Raanan.
As for what contract he could get, the 25-year-old could be in line for a salary of over $35 million per season, according to Raanan, who adds the Giants will franchise tag him if the two sides cannot agree on a long-term deal. The nonexclusive tag for a quarterback is set at $32.4 million.
Last offseason, the Giants chose not to exercise his fifth-year option to see if Jones could prove to be the QB of the future. Their gamble ultimately bit them in the butt as Jones excelled on the field while leading the team to the playoffs. New York defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the wild-card round before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round.
