It seemed like only a matter of time before the Detroit Lions moved on from running back D’Andre Swift, and it appears as though that time has some.
According to a breaking report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Lions have sent Swift to the Philadelphia Eagles for draft pick compensation.
Swift is just the latest former Georgia Bulldog to join the Eagles this weekend. The defending NFC champions also added defensive linemen Jalen Carter (ninth overall) and Nolan Smith (30th overall), along with cornerback Kelee Ringo (105th overall).
This comes one year after the team defensive tackle Jordan Davis and linebacker Nakobe Dean in the first- and third-round of the 2022 NFL Draft, respectively.
As for Swift, he was expected to be a big part of the Lions offense when they took him 35th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He did surpass 1,000 total yards in 2021 when he posted 617 rushing yards and 452 receiving yards in 13 games. But that was about as good as he got during his three-year tenure in the Motor City.
Swift became expendable in Detroit when the team signed free agent David Montgomery and drafted former Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs with the 12th overall pick on Thursday. He will now join an Eagles backfield that includes Rashaad Penny, Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott.
