Most people seem to think Dan Snyder’s days as the Washington Commanders’ owner are numbered, as more and more troubling news about the disgraced franchise seems to be unearthed each day.
The latest black eye for Washington’s football team came yesterday, when the U.S. House Committee released the findings from their investigation into the Commanders franchise. In those findings, Committee Chair Carolyn Maloney (D-New York) claims that Dan Snyder conducted a “shadow investigation” in an attempt to avoid punishment related to allegations that he fostered a toxic workplace within the organization.
With Maloney also stating that she and her house members fully intend to subpoena Snyder for a deposition next week, the Washington Commanders owner and his wife/co-owner, Tanya Snyder (along with team President Jason Wright) released a multi-page statement to their employees in an attempt to save face.
The main focus of the letter appears to be the Snyder’s claim that the committee’s investigation—and the media’s response—do not take into account everything that the organization has presumably done in order to improve their workplace conditions over the past two years.
The letter is eight pages in length, and the conclusion reads as follows:
“We believe the statements that have been made in the media critical of our organization do not accurately reflect our positive transformation and the current reality of the Washington Commanders organization that exists today. Such statements do a disservice to the nearly 300 Commanders employees who are feeling greater pride in the team today than at any time in recent history because they are part of an organization that is getting it right and setting a league-wide standard on the issues raised by the Committee. There is simply no committee more knowledgable on the Washington Commanders than our own team members. We are extraordinarily grateful for your efforts in creating a place where all feel welcome. We see you and are proud of you.”
