The Washington Commanders have appeeared to have been sold.
On Thursday, a report stated that Commanders owner Dan Snyder had reached an agreement in principle to sell the team for $6 billion. The group is led by 76ers co-owner Josh Harris and includes former NBA star Magic Johnson .
The report adds:
“Harris and Commanders owner Dan Snyder are hoping to execute a contract in the coming days, said the people, who were granted anonymity because they weren’t authorized to discuss the transaction publicly.”
If the deal does go through, it will be the highest price ever paid for a sports team, eclipsing the $4.6 billion that Rob Walton paid for the Denver Broncos back in 2022.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Snyder would only sell the Commanders if the league and other ownership groups indemnify him against possible liability stemming from his ownership, and only if the league’s investigation into his conduct be kept confidential.

In recent years, there have been multiple allegations of improper conduct in the workplace and hiding team income from the league and his fellow owners. All of that has caused an outcry by fans for Snyder to sell the team and separate himself from it, although he initially resisted doing so.
It took forever for him just to give in on changing the team nickname from the Redskins to the Commanders.
The news about this impending sale comes just a day after Jeff Bezos decided he would not put up billions to try and purchase the franchise. maybe he already knew about the sale going to somebody else.
