Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was tackling Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins in what appeared to be a routine play. He stood up and fell to his back just seconds later. The Buffalo Bills safety went into cardiac arrest.
After CPR was administered on the field, Hamlin was swiftly transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he remains in the intensive care unit in a critical condition.
Since the incident, fans, players, and media members have taken to social media and television to call for thoughts and prayers in support of Hamlin. Dan Orlovsky took it one step further.
Orlovsky said: “Maybe this is not the right thing to do but it’s just on my heart that I wanna pray for Damar Hamlin right now. I’m gonna do it out loud, I’m gonna close my eyes, I’m gonna bow my head and I’m just gonna pray for him.
“God, we come to you in these moments that we don’t understand, that are hard, because we believe that you’re God and that coming to you and praying to you has impact.
“We’re sad, we’re angry, we want answers, but some things are unanswerable. We just want to pray, truly come to you and pray for strength for Damar, for healing for Damar, for comfort for Damar, to be with his family, to give him peace.
“If we didn’t believe that prayer didn’t work we wouldn’t ask this of you God. I believe in prayer. We believe in prayer. We lift up Damar Hamlin’s name in your name. Amen.

Orlovsky also followed this up on Twitter by commenting: “Matthew 18:20.”
Hamlin received CPR for over nine minutes on the field before being taken away in an ambulance and admitted to an intensive care unit at a local hospital.
On Thursday, the world woke up to the great news that he was awake after opening his eyes.
