A former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst is already comparing USC Trojans’ star quarterback Caleb Williams to a two-time Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Fame inductee.
Williams, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, is the overwhelming favorite to go first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. If the draft were held today, the Chicago Bears would hold the top selection, as they occupy the Carolina Panthers’ 2024 first-round selection.
Speaking on “The Dan Patrick Show”, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky was asked who he would take with the first overall pick right now. Orlovsky chose Williams and compared him to ex-Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger:
“He’s got a lot of Big Ben in his game…big time. Big, athletic, powerful dude. Still sloppy mechanically a little bit, but great vision, great feel. Throws a beautiful different leveled or layered football. He’s awesome..I think he’s a superstar in the NFL, I really do.”
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Williams is off to another near-flawless start in 2023. He’s completed 71.7 percent of his pass attempts for 1,822 yards and 22 touchdowns with just one interception to go along with 124 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
Williams and the 6-0 Trojans will try to remain undefeated when they visit No. 21 ranked Notre Dame on Saturday.

Though a string of injuries limited Roethlisberger in the final years of his career, he finished with 64,088 passing yards (fifth all-time) and 418 passing touchdowns (eighth all-time). He led the Steelers to Super Bowl 40 and 43 championships in the 2005 and 2008 seasons, respectively.
Roethlisberger spent his entire career with the Steelers, which spanned from 2004 to 2021. Pittsburgh never had a losing season under No. 7, going 165-81-1 in games that the six-time Pro Bowler started.
