For the first time in years, the Houston Texans look like a team that has some direction. They needed a head coach, and one of the best candidates this cycle was a popular player from the team’s past.
The Texans hired DeMeco Ryans, who was the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator, as their new head coach. Ryans and the Texans reportedly agreed to a six-year deal, the organization looking for stability after four coaches the past three seasons.
Now, it’s time to fix the rest of the team.
ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky thinks he has the perfect quarterback that could work for Ryans and the team going forward.
“Needs to bring OC with ’em and hit on the QB,” Orlovsky said. “Meco played in Hou under [Gary Kubiak], and than has been in SF with Kyle. Whoever he brings as an OC is sure as heck going to come from those routes and the QB that comes to mind first: Anthony Richardson. See how it plays out.”
Richardson, who is 6-foot-4, 232 pounds, could be a star or a major bust. His floor is lower than some of the other quarterbacks in this year’s class.

The redshirt sophomore finished the 2022 campaign with 2,549 passing yards, 26 total touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
Few players in the 2023 NFL Draft offer the intrigue that Richardson does. Anything is possible.
Since the Texans fired Bill O’Brien during the 2020 season, Romeo Crennel wasn’t retained after serving as the interim coach, David Culley lasted only one year and so did Lovie Smith.
Ryans is expected to have way more time to right the ship.
