Damon Arnette has had a rough few years.
Former Raiders defensive back Damon Arnette was once again in trouble last month as he was arrested and charged with possession of less than a gram of meth and unlawful carrying of a firearm, NFL Media reports.
Arnette was arrested on Jan. 6 at 3:30 a.m. in Richardson, Texas, which is a suburb of Dallas.
While the meth charge is a felony in the state, it typically does not result in jail time as Arnette was allegedly carrying less than a single gram.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network would soon follow up with an explanation from the cornerback’s attorneys claiming the report was “simply incorrect.”
He added he was only arrested because he was “unable to provide law enforcement with his prescription for a lawful medication.”

“Our client, at the time of the stop, was unable to provide law enforcement with his prescription for a lawful medication,” the statement from Jason Lampert and Thomas Wynne said. “The arrest was predicated on Mr. Arnette being unable to prove the medication was prescribed. Had he been able to do so at the time of the stop, there would have been no arrest for either the controlled substance of the firearms.”
The lawyer claims they are working with local law enforcement “to rectify this matter” before the District Attorney’s Office presses charges.
Arnette spent five years playing at Ohio State as he racked up 35 total tackles, a forced fumble, eight passes defended, and an interception – a 96-yard pick-six – in his senior season.
The Raiders made Arnette a first-round draft pick in 2020, but he lasted only a year and a half before the team cut him during the 2021 season.
Just last August, Arnette was fined, sentenced to community service, and ordered to forfeit his gun after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of assault and drawing a deadly weapon.
