Ahead of their pivotal showdown with the Denver Broncos, the Buffalo Bills announced that safety Damar Hamlin will be active for Monday night’s game.
Hamlin will fill in for star safety Micah Hyde, who’s dealing with a neck injury. Hamlin, who last played in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins, will play his second game of the 2023 season as the 5-4 Bills try to climb back into the playoff picture.
The activation of Hamlin for tonight’s game led to an outpouring of support and loving messages for the 25-year-old safety.

In a terrifying scene, Hamlin went into cardiac arrest during a tackle on Tee Higgins in the Bills-Cincinnati Bengals Monday night game in Week 17 last season. Thankfully, medical personnel acted quickly and responsibly and managed to restore his heartbeat before Hamlin was taken to a hospital.
After just nine days in the hospital, Hamlin was released. He received clearance to continue playing football in April, completing the moving and inspirational comeback story.
The Pittsburgh product and 2021 sixth-round pick became a regular starter for the Bills in 2022. He appeared in 15 contests and started 13 of them, finishing the year with 1.5 sacks, two pass defenses, a forced fumble and 91 combined tackles.
The 5-4 Bills are coming off a tough loss to the Bengals at Paycor Stadium. A win would push them back to two games above. 500 and just half a game out of first in the AFC East.
