Damar Hamlin wasn’t able to accompany his teammates on the field yesterday when they took on the New England Patriots at Highmark Stadium, but he was definitely in their hearts.
And they were clearly in his heart as well, based on his reaction to the first play of the game.
As you’ve probably seen by now, the game had a storybook beginning when Nyheim Hines took the opening kickoff 96 yards to the house, giving the Bills an early 7-0 lead and sending an emotional crowd into a frenzy.
Not only was everyone inside Highmark Stadium losing their minds after watching that, but so was Damar Hamlin from his hospital bed.
According to Damar’s doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Hamlin reacted to the incredible moment by jumping out of his chair and setting off every alarm in the ICU.

That reaction was probably enough to tell the doctors that Hamlin’s progressed to the point where he can now be released from the hospital—which is what took place earlier today.
It’s just the latest great news from Damar Hamlin’s remarkable recovery.
