Free agent running back Dalvin Cook is now expected to team up with Aaron Rodgers in New York following news of a scheduled visit with the Jets.
According to Craig Carlton of FS1, Cook is set to meet with the AFC outfits on Sunday, with the team now his preferred destination. Carlton has also noted that there’s only $1 million separating the parties, suggesting it would be way easier to reach a deal than seeing negotiations fall through.
While training camp is underway around the NFL, Cook previously indicated he was in no rush to find a new home as there were important things to consider.
“At this moment, it’s just kind of taking my time and being patient with the process,” he told KSTP-TV while in Minnesota hosting his annual football camp last week.
“You can’t rush this. This is a life decision that can put me in a great predicament for my future. I’m just taking my time and I’m not rushing it. When I make that decision it’s going to be right for me and my family.”
The market for premium running backs isn’t what it used to be, though the New York Jets and Saquon Barkley were able to come to terms on a one-year deal worth $11 million in the wake of their franchise-tag standoff.

In Cook’s case, things are even more difficult as it’s believed that the NFL could suspend him at some point given certain legal matters.
Should he join the Jets, he would be the No. 1 option in the backfield, although there would be competition when Breece Hall comes off the PUP list. The Jets hope that Hall will be ready for Week 1 next season following rehab on a torn ACL.
