Free agent NFL running back Dalvin Cook wasted little time teasing his next destination following his release from the Minnesota Vikings.
After months of hearing his name in the trade rumor mill, Cook was released by the Vikings on Thursday. In cutting Cook, the defending NFC North champions save a whopping $9 million in cap space.
As noted by Ari Meirov, Cook’s latest Instagram story features a photo of him from the Vikings’ Week 6 road win against the Miami Dolphins back in October of last year. Perhaps Cook is hinting that South Beach will be his next home?
The Dolphins have long been viewed as a front-runner to land Cook, and he definitely is a fit there. Miami’s leading rusher of 2022 was 30-year-old Raheem Mostert, who had 891 rushing yards and three rushing scores.
The rest of Miami’s depth chart consists of trade deadline pickup Jeff Wilson Jr., Myles Gaskin and Devon Achane. But adding a four-time 1,000-yard rusher and four-time Pro Bowler in Cook, of course, could take Miami’s offense to another level.
Miami hasn’t had a running go for 1,000 yards rushing since Jay Ajayi, who rushed for 1,272 back in the 2016 season. So to say that the RB position has been a weak link in South Beach for six years would be a giant understatement.
