The football world was expecting the Minnesota Vikings to make a decision on Dalvin Cook’s future at some point this week. And it has finally come.
According to several reports, the Vikings have released Cook, making him free to sign with whichever NFL team he wishes.
Two teams have already emerged as front-runners in the Miami Dolphins and the Denver Broncos.
This move has been expected for a while now, as teams were said to be waiting on the Vikings to release Cook with no one seemingly interested in making a trade for the 27-year-old running back.
Cook was drafted by the Vikings in the second round of the 2017 draft. He enjoyed plenty of success in Minny, making it to four Pro Bowls during his time there. That includes last season, during which he put up 1,173 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.

He’ll be 28 once the 2023 season kicks off, but with four straight 1,000-yard seasons under his belt, the former Florida State star still has plenty left in the tank.
Another team to keep your eye on is the Buffalo Bills, who already have Dalvin’s brother, James Cook, in their backfield. Could the older Cook decide to join his brother and compete for a Super Bowl on a cheap one-year deal? Or will be be looking to cash in with whichever team writes him the biggest check.
Either way, it’s just another big name to keep track of in what is now a very interesting NFL free agent market.
