Free agent running back Dalvin Cook appeared to show interest in joining the New England Patriots during recent Twitter activity.
Two weeks ago, the Minnesota Vikings released the 27-year-old running back from his contract. Even though he’s been one of the game’s elite offensive weapons since 2019 (four straight 1,000-yard seasons), Cook remains unsigned with free agency coming up.
During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show”, former NFL scout and Cleveland Browns general manager Michael Lombardi stated that the Patriots would be a good fit for Cook. If you go to his Twitter timeline, you’ll see that Cook retweeted the video clip of Lombardi’s suggestion:
In 2020, Cook signed a five-year contract extension with the Vikings worth $63 million. Despite his consistent production, however, the reigning NFC North champions couldn’t pass up the chance to clear $9 million in cap space by releasing their star RB.
The Patriots already have a Pro Bowl-caliber running back in Rhamondre Stevenson, who rushed for 1,040 yards and five touchdowns last season. But if New England can land Cook at a discounted price, Bill Belichick shouldn’t be shy in pursuing the four-time Pro Bowler.
