It’s been nearly one full month now since Dalvin Cook was released by the Minnesota Vikings, and the four-time Pro Bowler remains unsigned with training camp just around the corner.
The New York Jets have been widely mentioned as a front-runner for Cook’s services. In fact, the four-time Pro Bowler recently hinted on social media that he’s interested in joining the AFC East club.
Brian Costello of the New York Post took a deep dive into the possibility of the Jets signing the ex-Vikings’ superstar. Costello wrote that New York Jets “could become interested if his price tag gets low enough.
Costello outlined three reasons for the Jets to sign cook: Firstly that they need another playmaker for Aaron Rodgers, with Costello noting that Cook would fit in the running schemes drawn up by offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
Costello added there’s no guarantee that the team’s top running back, Breece Hall, will be at 100 percent as he continues to recover from surgery on a season-ending ACL tear from last year. Finally, Costello pointed out that the Jets are in win-now mode, and that Cook could “be the veteran playmaker the Jets need to complement Hall.”

The Jets completed a blockbuster trade for the four-time MVP-winning quarterback ahead of the draft. Rodgers has a nice set of weapons headlined by Hall, Wilson, Corey Davis, Mecole Hardman and Allen Lazard.
But there’d be no risk in signing one of the game’s most prolific running backs of the past four years to a short-term deal. Cook may have shown signs of regression last year, but he’s still more than capable of being a productive runner, especially on a star-studded offense like the Jets’ unit.
For now, Cook remains a free agent. Until he’s signed, the Cook-to-Jets speculation will continue to dominate the rumor mill.
