An NFL insider has provided some interesting details regarding Dalvin Cook’s recent visit with the New York Jets.
The four-time Pro Bowl running back visited with the AFC East club over the weekend, but he left without a deal. On Wednesday’s edition of SportsCenter (h/t Bleacher Report’s Mike Chiari), ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reported that some in the Jets’ organization thought Cook had a “bizarre” visit with the team:
“Well look, bizarre is a good word to use and honestly a sentiment that’s shared by some people that I’ve spoken to within the Jets organization as well. They’re wondering too what exactly are the motives here of Dalvin Cook. I think that we have to be very careful here, not everybody in the Jets feels that way, but there is a wonder here. Is he using the Jets for leverage right now? Is he trying to ramp up potential offers with other teams to get maybe a spot on those rosters? Would the Miami Dolphins be that team?…
Now, I will say that I believe there is a spot on this Dolphins team if Dalvin Cook decides to come to the Dolphins. But right now, certainly as he walks away from the Jets without a contract, there is a wonder about his desire specifically to play for the Jets.”
Cook has long been linked to joining the Dolphins, and he would be a good fit there. Miami’s leading rusher a year ago was the injury-prone and now-31-year-old Raheem Mostert, who finished with 891 yards on the ground.
Iowa State product Breece Hall was the Jets’ lead RB last season for seven games before unfortunately suffering a season-ending ACL tear. Hall was a front-runner for Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, recording 463 rushing yards and four touchdowns before his injury.
So the Jets could certainly use a four-time 1,000-yard rusher like Cook to help the ground game, especially if Hall isn’t ready for the start of the season.

It’s been nearly two months since the Minnesota Vikings released their star running back in a cap-saving move. Cook, like Ezekiel Elliott, Saquon Barley, Josh Jacobs, Tony Pollard and Austin Ekeler, is certainly learning that the running back position is simply a devaluing one.
For his career, Cook has 5,993 rushing yards and 47 rushing touchdowns.
